Tonnes of Ammonium Nitrate moved from Chennai to Hyderabad.

Chemical explosive ammonium nitrate, the last batch of around 700 tons is being moved from Chennai to an explosives manufacturer in the state of Telangana, but some people living near its new location didn't know about the huge blast in lebanon's capital or the chemical being stored just three kilometers from their homes.  It was the ammonium nitrate explosion in Beirut on August 4th that prompted customs officers in chennai to move the 700 tonnes of the explosive chemical being stored in a container freight yard on the outskirts of the city.

Hyderabad based company bought the material months ago but its relocation has been fast tracked after the lebanon blast, the explosive grade ammonium nitrate was seized at the chennai port in 2015. Experts say it shouldn't have been stored in the area for so many years.

The company that now owns the ammonium nitrate says it's been handing up to 2,000 tonnes of the material every month without incident, but environmentalists say no amount of ammonium nitrate is safe when stored in large quantities.
